What is an E27 lamp holder?

An E27 lamp holder (also known as an Edison screw lamp holder) is a standard screw-in socket for incandescent, fluorescent, and LED light bulbs. The "E" stands for Edison, and the number 27 represents the diameter of the screw base in millimeters. This type of lamp holder is widely used in many countries, including Europe, Asia, and Australia. It is compatible with bulbs that have a matching E27 base, which is a screw base that measures 27mm in diameter. E27 lamp holders can be found in a variety of applications, including residential lighting, commercial lighting, and outdoor lighting.

How do you replace a porcelain lampholder?

Replacing a porcelain lampholder involves a few simple steps:

1. Turn off the power: Before you begin, make sure to turn off the power to the light fixture to avoid the risk of electric shock.

2. Remove the light bulb: Remove the light bulb from the socket by unscrewing it.

3. Remove the fixture cover: Depending on the fixture, you may need to remove a cover to access the lampholder. This may involve unscrewing screws or pressing clips to release the cover.

4. Disconnect the wires: The lampholder is connected to the electrical wiring by two wires, typically covered in wire nuts. To remove the old lampholder, gently unscrew the wire nuts and separate the wires.

5. Remove the old lampholder: The old lampholder is typically held in place by one or two screws. Unscrew these to release the lampholder from the fixture.

6. Install the new lampholder: Align the new lampholder with the holes in the fixture and screw it into place. Connect the wires from the fixture to the wires from the lampholder, and cover the connections with wire nuts.

7. Replace the fixture cover: If you removed a cover to access the lampholder, replace it by screwing it back into place or re-attaching any clips.

8. Install the light bulb: Finally, screw in a new light bulb and turn the power back on.

Note: If you are unsure about any part of the process or if you feel uncomfortable with electrical work, it's best to consult a professional electrician for assistance.
